Whitwick Junior Badminton Club is thriving with a full membership.
The club has a great working relationship with local primary schools and the weekly Whitwick/Coalville Leisure Centre junior badminton sessions, both of which continue to bring new players into the club, which now has 54 members.
For the first time this season, we have a group of very young players—some as young as six—whose parents were members of the junior club themselves. How time flies!
Amie and I have always encouraged the players to collaborate, and it is truly paying off. We are incredibly fortunate that more and more older club members are stepping up to support the younger players, and we are very grateful. Some are showing great potential as future coaches. Two of our members, Ruby and Isabelle, are doing a wonderful job in working with and encouraging our youngest players, ensuring they have fun while learning.
The club has many players who have represented the county and attended the Performance Centre, but it’s not all about performance. While we encourage competition, our main aim is to run sessions that are fun and enjoyable while equipping players with the skills and experience needed to eventually play senior badminton.
We also enjoy organising social activities. This year, we hosted an inter-club Olympic-themed competition and a glow-in-the-dark session, which was great fun. We are also planning the annual coaching trip to Milton Keynes and a dip in the water at the Aqua Park.
Amie and I are incredibly proud of all our players—they are a wonderful group of children with very supportive parents. A big thank you to you all for making the club a success!
