LSBA Appointment of Team Managers
Team Managers are appointed by the committee, at or after the Annual General Meeting.
The Team Manager’s role is to select teams in conjunction with coaches and the Junior County Captain objectively according to the type of event, with transparently without bias and taking into account the policy within this document.

DUTIES OF A TEAM MANAGER
GENERAL
- The Secretary will give you an updated list of players for your squad at the beginning of the season.
- The Secretary will also provide you with the U12/13, U14/15/, U16/17, U18/19 Team Managers with the Shires League Score sheet electronically or hard copies if requested.
- The Match Secretary will give you details of matches, dates, times, venues, number of players, maps etc. as these become available.
- At the beginning of each season send out a letter to all players in your age group asking for availability for matches. A template letter is available from the Secretary.
- Select the team carefully and fairly, according to the opposition, liaising with coaches.
- Ensure that players are notified at least two weeks in advance of the match.
- Make sure your players have your contact number in case of an emergency.
- Leicestershire players are taught to play in a sportsmanlike manner. Racket throwing, arguments and deliberate gamesmanship must be eliminated in a careful but firm manner. Repeated violation of this Code of Conduct by a Leicestershire player must result in the removal of this player from the court and the game being conceded.
- Encourage players to enter Open Tournaments around the country. Forms are available on the Badminton England website and also through the Leicestershire Schools’ Badminton Association website (www.leicestershiresba.co.uk)
- After all tournaments and matches either write a report, or ask a player to write a report, which should then be sent to the Carole Spencer (secretary@leicestershiresba.co.uk).
HOME MATCHES
- Match shuttles should be collected from the metal cabinet in the LSBA Cupboard at Babington. Please ensure you complete the Shuttles Book, recording the number of shuttles you have taken/used.
- If using the Sports Hall, set the nets up and return them after the match to the L.S.B.A. box.
- If there are more than two matches, priority for the LBA Hall is given to the older team. However, if shires league and friendly matches are involved, priority should be given to the shires league matches in order to give maximum benefit to Leicestershire.
- Food refreshments are no longer to be provided. Drinks available are orange, tea, coffee and sugar are kept in the big cupboard (check). Milk needs to be brought. Set up in the storeroom. Encourage and involve parents to help.
- Collect match fees from all players – Make respective total BACS payment to the LSBA and complete & return match completed match form to the treasurer treasurer@leicestershiresba.co.uk. This will including indicating number and type of shuttlecocks used.
- A good warm up must be done before going on court.
- Use old practice shuttles out of the box for knock-ups, use new for the match only. Players must always bring back their old shuttle in exchange for a new one and always bring the shuttle back at the end of their match. Re-use any decent shuttles if possible.
- Let the opposition know what are lets and faults in our halls.
- Let the opposition team managers have your completed sheet, with the team order written on, when they have completed theirs.
- Completed results sheets should be kept by team managers for future reference.
Shires League match sheets only must be duplicated, signed by both team managers and a signed copy sent to the Shires League Secretary and please also advise the LSBA Secretary of the result. - Tidy up and put everything away. Lock the cupboard and storeroom.
AWAY MATCHES
- As above where applicable.
- Take a first aid kit from the LSBA metal cabinet.
- Arrive in plenty of time.
- Ascertain local playing conditions eg. ‘Let’s and faults’.
- Remind players to take ‘pack-up’ refreshments and also to take plenty of drink.
- Take a first-aid kit and the medical consent forms.
