After the weather took its toll on the previous week’s fixtures, the U14 team travelled away to Staffordshire to play in their second shires games on Sunday 17th December. The team consisted of regulars Tom Platzer, William Sewell, Mitchell Allen, Leo Grady and Carly Stevenson, as well as Evie McMillan making her county debut and our fantastic under 12 recruits Sylvie Walker and Matilda Sherwin.
With the mixed up first and some of the players partnering for the first time, the team did amazingly well to come out 4-0 winners. Next up singles and all the players worked hard, with all four boys winning their respective games in two ends and Carly and Matilda also matching them, leaving Leicestershire winning 10- 2 with just the level doubles to go.
With Leicestershire only needing the one game to claim victory the team knew what they had to do and they didn’t disappoint, every player did their part, every pair claiming victories and playing for one another showing a fantastic team ethic.
Final Score: Leicestershire 18 – 2 Staffordshire
Well done to Evie for her display and brilliant attitude in her first match and to our very young recruits Matilda and Sylvie, who despite their age showed maturity, determination and skill to overcome their respective opponents. The whole Leicestershire U14 squad however should be incredibly proud of themselves for their efforts as well as their parents for supporting so positively and well.
Well done to you all and we wish all our players a merry and safe Christmas. We look forward to continuing our successes into the New Year.
