Sunday 4th December and the 1st leg of the annual North Midway League was held at the Concord Sports Centre in Sheffield with this year’s team selection including a mix of old hands and relatively inexperienced newcomers to competition. The team went out determined to make the most of one of the most enjoyable fixtures of the year, ably led on the day by Team Manager Collins and assisted by Coach Sherwin!
The team:-
Tamsin, Tilly, Evie & Grace
Tom PW, Lewis, Louie, Harrison & Callum
For the first round, Leicestershire were pitted against Lancs 1 and Yorks 2. The Lancs 1 team proved to have the strength in depth and we lost our first match 2-8. Undeterred, the team took on a much weaker Yorkshire 2 team next and returned a win this time 8-2. Placing 2nd in our box put the Leicestershire team into the second group playing for positions 4, 5 and 6.
Round 2 saw us play local rivals Notts and despite a close contest which was neck and neck the whole way, Notts managed a narrow 6-4 victory this time. The final match was against Lancs 2; the team gave it their all and won through 7-3 for an overall 5th position – a very creditable result for a relatively inexperienced team. Plenty of room to improve further during the 2nd leg in February!
