Sunday 22nd May saw a clutch of U16 talent travel to Warwickshire to compete in the prestigious ‘Rising Stars’ open event – and the medals were soon flowing back into Leicestershire thick and fast!
In the main mixed event, Martin Beynon and Ella Haines won silver while Hritika Modi and her Lincs partner won bronze. Tom Cowperthwaite and Eve Dale won gold in the consolation mixed event after losing a very close match in the first round of the main event making them the ‘best of the rest’!
Martin, Tom, Eve and Hritika all competed in the singles ‘A’ event, facing the challenge of a very strong field. Eve was the most successful winning 2 out of her 4 matches, only narrowly missing out on winning 3.
Leicestershire players took gold in both the the girls’ and boys’ singles ‘B’ event courtesy of Nikhil Chotai and Ella. The Foxes cleaned up the rest of the medals with Dan Youngs taking silver from an all Leics final. A special mention for Joe Goodenough with a well-earned bronze despite playing up 2 age groups with Marcus Kilby taking the other bronze.

In other competition news from this weekend, Izzy Pike earned her first tournament singles placing, winning bronze at the U14 Cheshire Open event on Saturday.
