Loughborough Grammar win KS4 Boys Title

Jakob Rana, Will Lo, Sam Rodgers, Jamie Chan and Mengwin Li have won the KS4 Boys Schools League title for Loughborough Grammar School.

They joined pupils from Belvoir High School, Beauchamp College, Soar Valley College, Market Bosworth School, Martin High School, Kibworth High School, Babington Community College and King Edward VII College who had all qualified to compete at the KS4 finals.

Four teams progressed from the initial group stage into the semi-finals, where Babington Community College were victorious against Soar Valley College and Loughborough Grammar won a tight match against the strong team from Martin High School.

The final between the two group winners was a fitting climax to an excellent evening of badminton that had highlighted the great strength in depth in Leicestershire junior badminton. Babington got off to a great start, winning two closely fought singles rubbers and with Babington 20-18 up in the third rubber the writing looked on the wall for Loughborough until the Loughborough pair’s spirited fight back gave them a 21-20 win.  2-1 down going into the final two doubles rubbers, Loughborough quickly pulled back level, leaving the match to be decided by the final game.  With hardly a point between the pairs throughout the game, at 19-19 it could have gone either way but as earlier, the Loughborough pair came through to win the final two points and clinch the title.

Loughborough Grammar School will now represent Leicestershire at the regional finals against teams from Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire.
