Kyle Grady, Harry Clare, Luke Hoult and Noel Kew from Newbridge High school in Coalville have won the KS3 Boys Leicestershire Schools League title for 2015/16. Having already won the North West Leicestershire league they were pitched against the winning teams from leagues across the whole of Leicestershire at the county finals held at Babington College earlier this month.
The Newbridge team played 4 matches in group 2 against Roundhills, Rushey Mead, Catmose and a very close last match v Manor, winning that match 3-2 . They won all their matches in the group which took them through to the semi final stages of the competition. Their next opponents were the Group 1 runners up – home venue team Babington College but nothing was going to stop the Newbridge lads reaching the final, notching up a 4-1 win.
Group 1 winners Loughborough Grammar met Manor in the semi finals winning 3-2 , so the final was set: Newbridge v Loughbrough Grammar and although the match was close, by game 4 Newbridge had clinched it and went onto win 3-2 to be crowned champions!
They will now join Loughborough Grammar (KS4 Boys), King Edward VII (KS4 Girls) and Ibstock Community College (KS3 Girls) in representing Leicestershire at the regional finals on Tuesday 22nd March where they will compete against the winning schools from Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire for the prestige of going on to the National Finals in April!
