U15s v Buckinghamshire….so nearly!!

Leicestershire U15’s team knew that this match against Buckinghamshire was going to be their hardest challenge so far.

Ella, Hritika, Jasmin, Eve, Tom C, Tom L, Sameer, Marcus, Daniel

Mixed Doubles

Leicestershire needed to get off to a quick start and they certainly did that:

Sameer and Hritika put the first point on the board with an impressive 2 – 0 win over their opponents, they controlled the match throughout playing some high standard shots, winning 21 – 12 and 21 – 15. Ella and Tom L won their match 2 – 0, but had to battle, with some excellent defence winning 21 – 19 21 – 19. Eve and Marcus brought the third match home after a nervous start losing the first game 15 – 21, second and third games they improved and took the shuttle earlier to win the next two games 21 – 15 and 21 – 17, Leicestershire were on for a perfect start but Jasmin and Tom C came up against very strong opponents, they fought all the way with Tom using his big smash and Jasmin showing good defence, but lost 21 – 13, 21 – 18.

Mixed Doubles Score 3 – 1

Boys Singles

Tom C played a player ranked number 2 in the country and fought for every point with his opponent seeming to be everywhere, 12 – 21 16 – 21 the final score. Daniel also came up against a high standard player, he had to play a lot of defence losing out 14 – 21 9 – 21. Marcus didn’t really get into his singles game, his opponent controlled the rallies, Marcus lost 8 – 21 4 – 21. Sameer tried very hard to bring a point home with good movement but lost 15 – 21 17 – 21.

Girls Singles

Leicestershire girls stepped up knowing they needed to win their matches to stop Buckinghamshire moving too far ahead, all the girls played excellent badminton winning their games 2 – 0. Hritika played her usual controlled game to win 21 – 16 21 – 12. Ella played a skilful opponent but was stronger at the end of each game winning 21 – 19 21 – 16. Eve made quick work of her match playing confidently throughout, winning 21 – 16 21 – 12. Jasmin played a hard opponent but again was stronger towards the end of the games winning 21 – 17 21 – 15

Singles Score 4 – 4

Match Score 7 – 5

Boys Doubles

Tom C and Marcus had to play some very strong defence and some high class drop shots to keep themselves in a game against strong opposition, losing out 17 – 21 16 – 21. In their second match they played well from the first point, this was an excellent match with Bucks finally winning 16 – 21 18 – 21. Tom L and Daniel lost the first game 14 – 21 but showed character to win the second 21 – 15, they made a good start in the third and looked good for the win but their opponents improved and won 21 – 16. In their second match they both battled playing Bucks best players, they worked well together but lost 18 – 21 13 – 21.

Again Leicestershire were looking to the girls to win their matches.

Girls Doubles

Eve and Hritika got off to a flying start controlling the game and winning easily 21 – 16 21 – 9. Ella and Jasmin won the first game 21 – 15 but their opponent fought back well to win 21 – 17 21 – 16.

This meant Bucks had 10 points so a draw was the best result with two matches to play.

Ella and Jasmin won the first game 21 – 9 looking good and confident, their opponents fought back to win 21 – 16, the last game was a battle for both pairs, Ella and Jasmin played well, this game had to be played to set points with Bucks winning 22 – 20. Bucks had won the match but Eve and Hritika didn’t let it affect them, they played two very long games with some rallies being played over 30 shots, they won both games 26 – 24 and 24 – 22.

Doubles Score 2 – 6

Overall Match Result 9 – 11

What a performance by all the team, Bucks had only lost 5 games in their previous 3 matches and were pushed all the way by our players.
